Monk Rowe

As Director of the Hamilton College Jazz Archive Monk coordinated the gathering of over 300 video interviews with our greatest jazz artists. In 1999 Monk composed and recorded a series of new tunes inspired by and dedicated to some of these jazz greats.

Recently Monk recorded a CD of solo piano tunes entitled At the Piano which were chosen to reflect what he typically plays on solo piano gigs. Because he often enjoys the role of accompanist, he also included five cuts where he plays both saxophone and piano.

The CD Jazz Life contains compositions recorded by Monk along with six respected jazz musicians: Wendell Brunious (trumpet and flugelhorn), Dennis Mackrel (drums), Jerome Richardson (alto sax), Keter Betts (bass), Bill Watrous (trombone) and Rick Montalbano (piano).
